THE ODDFELLOWS ARMS
Caldbeck, Wigton, Cumbria, CA7 8EA

From around the tables outside the front door or in the rear garden you can sit with a beer and watch the world go by or enjoy a Ploughmans Lunch from the all day menu. Caldbeck is a working rural village with all its day to day activities transacting before you. Dairy and sheep farming predominate but there are other varied enterprises of interest within easy reach of the Oddfellows. Walking this area is a very popular pastime, whether it be the serious scaling of Skiddaw or Blencathra or a more leisurely hike to see the Old Bobbin Mill, once the site of the Britains largest waterwheel. Either way the Oddfellows is the ideal starting, or even better, finishing point.

The bars have traditional stone flag floors, there is a wealth of solid wooden furnture with comfortable alcoves in which to while away an evening suitably refreshed. When the weather is on the cold side you will always find a substantial fire roaring in the grate. This is a place for locals and visitors to get to know each other and the banter flows along with the ale, of which there is a good and varied supply. A full range of glorious Jennings on draught or in the bottle, Snecklifter, Cockahoop and Cumberland Cream.
For those with a love of the liquor from north of the Border there is also a wonderful assortment of single malt whiskies to slek the thirst of many an evening.

The recently re-furbished restaurant offers an all day a la carte menu with a strong emphasis on organically grown produce from the local region. Beef, lamb, chicken and game all supplied by farms within 30 miles of the pub. Fish dishes featuring catches brought in regularly from the west coasts small specialist fishermen or from the nearby fresh water rivers.
On the  daily specials board the tempting, and sometimes exotic dishes are offered on a first come first served basis, so it pays to get in early to avoid disappointment.

For those wishing a lighter fare there is an extensive bar snack and sandwich menu. Some specially chosen dishes in smaller portions are prepared for children.

A major part of the recent re-furbishment at the Oddfellows was the inclusion of ten well furnished and appointed letting bedrooms. All the rooms have colour co-ordinated decor and ensuite facilities.
